Singapore Shipping Association To Deploy Blockchain For Ship Registration

The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) , the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) & Singapore based blockchain start-up firm, Perlin have collaborated to develop the International E-Registry of Ships (IERS) system, which is expected to significantly improve the currently lengthy ship registration and renewal process, according to the reports.
The International E-Registry of Ships (IERS) system is based on Perlin’s Wavelet, an open record for writing decentralized WebAssembly applications, to create a blockchain e-register that runs on self- executing smart contracts as per financial daily Business Times reports.
This initiative is well supported by Singapore Authorities, i.e.; The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore . They are in support by sharing the IERS ship-registration process and exploring an open API in the registration process. Once the IERS is successfully proven, ICC plans to introduce IERS standards among its international network of members and affiliated chambers.
The Blockchain solutions seem to be of high demand and value to the Maritime Sector. In recent months Ocean Network Express and Hapag-Lloyd join blockchain tracking platform TradeLens.
However, blockchain shipping startup 300cubits closed down its booking module and the circulation of its TEU token due to low transaction volume and low participation from carriers.
