The Ocean Alliance Members Have Extended Their Cooperation Till 2027
As we all know, the Ocean Alliance organizations comprise of four member companies (namely, the Cosco, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, and the Orient Overseas Container Line) that have mutually agreed to extend their cooperation till March 2027. The organization was formed in 2017 for five years (along with a five-year renewal period) and has maintained its status as the world’s largest operational deal between the shipping lines.
The revised network of the organization will commence from April 2019, which will initiate the deployment of 330 container vessels with a commendable capacity of carrying around 3.8m teu across 38 services. It has been revealed that CMA CGM alone will take the charge of 111 vessels. This 10-year duration of partnership reflects the trust and reliability factor between the existing members of the Ocean Alliance. Rodolphe Saade, the CEO and Chairman of the CMA CGM Group, has appreciated the top-notch working relationship between the members of the Ocean Alliance.
The CEO is of the opinion that this cooperation with the Asian companies will allow them to promote an unrivalled service in the long run. He strongly believes that the extension of the cooperation will confirm CMA CGM’s importance in the shipping industry, once and for all. On the other hand, Cosco has highlighted the ease with which the difficulties can be handled in the future by the organization, once the ten-year agreement has been finalised.
Ningbo-Zhoushan is Honoured as the Third Largest Container Port in the World
The China-based Ningbo-Zhoushan has been declared as the third largest container port in the whole world after it successfully recorded a container throughput of 26m teu for the first time. In fact, the port has also been able to triumph over the Shenzhen port, which had reported a 25.74m teu of container throughput at the end of 2018. In order to achieve a higher rate of throughput, the Ningbo-Zhoushan port had entered into an active collaboration with many shipping alliances that concerns the deployment of shipping routes and boost a steady increase for the local resources.
The Chinese port has also confirmed its status as a hub port in international shipping. According to the current reports, the Ningbo-Zhoushan port has supervised the operations of 246 shipping routes in the previous year. Incidentally, the port owes such an impressive container throughput to the swift development of the combined transportation by the sea and the railway. In 2018, the port had managed to start the operations of no less than 9 sea=railway combined routes that was instrumental in completing over 600,000 teu of the sea-railway cargo volume.
Moreover, the Ningbo-Zhoushan port is now in the second place in the world (with respect to container shipping), with the S hanghai Port still continuing to enjoy its first position for the ninth consecutive year.
PSA Has Achieved a Good Volume Growth in 2018
Of recent, the PSA International has been brilliant at handling 81 million teus of containers at its numerous port projects spread across the globe during last year. The Group CEO of PSA, Mr Tan Chong Meng, has thrown light on this matter by stating that 2018 was a dual-speed phase for the company. Even though there were many obstacles in the form of trade barriers and geopolitical shifts, there were no restrictions on the growth of container trade growth. In fact, there was a noticeable increase in the digitalisation activities with respect to the global supply chain and it definitely stimulated a boost in both the efficiency and visibility in the chain. Mr Meng also thanked the company’s partners and clients for their constant cooperation in achieving a surge in the overall volume growth.
The CMA CGM Group Unites Two Major Intra-European Transport Companies
The CMA CGM organization has been instrumental in bringing together both the intra-European multimodal transport films, namely the CMA CGM Containerships and the Mac Andrews brands. This will prove to be highly beneficial in the near future because it will promptly unlock the synergies and establish a powerful intra-European brand that will team up inland solutions with innovative maritime solutions. The merged Containerships brand will commence its operations from April and will provide logistics solutions for all types of transportation (be it ships, trains, barges, or trucks) and will offer its services in the regions of Northern Europe, Turkey, Russia, North Africa, and even the Baltic markets.
