We spoke to Srikumar Pillai, who is a Branch Manager at Gujarat, and asked him about his experience with ODeX and the Shipping Industry. Two years ago, I made a big decision; I left a great International Job at an extraordinary company to return back to India due to my family responsibilities. The change in location and I had a doubt in mind whether I would be able to get the good working atmosphere and a good company. I decided to take a step back and think. Luckily the exact time I had an opportunity coming from ODeX. I grabbed the opportunity but knew very little about it. It was a totally new concept for me, from managing a country in trading industry to e-Shipping. I was a little afraid in the beginning, but the leaders of the company knew how to mould and bring out the maximum from me. Our Team The top management and the founders are just extraordinary; especially both Anand Raman and Vinit Shetty made my concept very clear and helped me to get a good start in just a fortnight. Soon with the help of them I and my Team became one of the better performers of the company and now I am given an opportunity of higher role to manage entire region We the entire team from Support, Liner Support, Operations, Product Team, Developers, Marketing, Sales, Managers and Top Management work together with great enthusiasm and team spirit. My Region and Responsibilities In a state gifted with maximum sea-ports also known as ‘Worlds Gateway to India’ , I enjoy my position which comes with a lot of responsibilities such as, to ensure smooth operations across different shipping lines, ports and ICD locations. It’s an excellent feel when you develop and maintain relations with the Shipping line, Port Authorities, CFS/ICD, CHA/Forwarders Consignees and Transporters. Well, it’s good to grow along with a growing region defining targets and accomplishing the same. To convert Gujarati Businessmen is not an easy task, but slowly we are succeeding in transforming them to e-Shipping platform and are also getting a good response from them. As an Area Manager, I also need to think and look for different business development ideas within the industry and implement the same for the benefit of the company. The important part is to understand the needs of Branch offices of shipping lines, coordinating it with my Operation and Product Team to deliver the best solution possible as almost all their head offices are located in Nhava Sheva. “Listen to the voice from within” In between, many opportunities knocked on my door, but a voice from within restricted me to accept them. Career along with life is not just about a monetary increase. It is also a combination of work-life balance, satisfaction & enjoyment in what you do, then the work becomes more interesting, which I am able to get in ODeX. As Arianna Huffington (Business Women) quotes, “Success is not the result of the amount of time we put in at work; instead it’s the quality of time we put in”.
