We spoke to Avishek Bhattacherjee, who recently completed his Internship with us in our Operations team in Kolkata, and asked him about his experience with ODeX and the Shipping Industry. I completed my graduation in BBM (Hons.) in 2017. After that, I did my MBA in Transportation and Logistics Management from IISWBM, the first B-School in South-East Asia. I was recruited as an intern for Operations in Kolkata during my final semester in MBA. My great-grandfather worked at Mackinnon Mackenzie & Co. Ltd. during the British period. I loved listening to all those stories from my grandmother about sailing in a merchant ship since childhood and always look at his medals and batches with admiration. During the MBA course, I was attracted to the marine transport paper and read books by Alan E Branch and Marc Levinson. People all over the world can easily name big IT firms, but do not know the names of the major shipping lines. Maritime transport carries 90% by volume and 70% of the value of everything around the world but it is working silently shaping the world economy with each passing day. But my knowledge about shipping is limited to books. The first time, I observed the port operation at Kolkata and Haldia Dock during my industrial visit. I received my induction about the company’s working domain from Prosenjit Poddar, Operations Manager at ODeX. I received regular briefings and training sessions from various department. The work culture at ODeX is like a family. All employees enjoy the level of individuality and the creativity with which they want to introduce in the process of product and process innovation. People at ODeX are very friendly, informative and optimistic in nature. They always motivate me and helped to build my confidence. They never treated me as a stranger, instead helped and guided me whenever needed. They soon made me feel that even I am a part of ODeX family. We welcome those who want to enter the Shipping Industry. We have openings in our Customer Support and IT Departments! Apply to enter the wonderful domain of Ocean Shipping . ODeX is an online shipping documentation and payments platform, creating an ecosystem for all stakeholders in the industry to carry out their business more efficiently.
