Bertram Rickmers Is Back With Its Brand-New Vessel On Its Maiden Voyage
Bertram Rickmere had temporarily bid goodbye to the maritime scene for a period of two years, owing to a bad case of bankruptcy that had resulted in a loss of $250m for the investors. Now, it is back again in the shipping industry with a fleet that includes no less than 10 feeder boxships that have been ordered in China. As per the recent report shared by MarineTraffic, the green-hulled vessel known as ‘Spirit of Chennai’ (weighs around 1,162 teu) has embarked on its maiden voyage as an extra loader from Fuzhou to the East Coast, across the transpacific. This vessel happens to be the first of its kind and belongs to the deal of the10 boxships at the Fujian Mawei Shipyard. The ‘Spirit of Chennai’ will be soon followed by another vessel called the ‘Spirit of Kolkata’ that has also been chartered for two years by MSC, which can be extended by 12 months if required.
The Northern Sea Route Has Proven To Be Useful For Maersk
With the steady development in the field of technology and advanced methods of shipping, the Arctic region is becoming easier to access owing to the reduction in sea ice from the constant rise in global warming. Russia has put in a lot of effort to improve the condition of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and is focusing on establishing new ports and creating strong icebreakers to aid the transfer of cargo.
It was only last year that the shipping giant Maersk pioneered the initiative of plunging deep into the Northern Sea Route with a vessel loaded with Russian fish and South Korean electronics. However, Maersk has made it public that the organization has no immediate plans of commercializing the route with the further deployment of vessels from its fleet. Russia is of the opinion that there is a growing demand from the Asian countries in favour of the utilization of the sea route, which has triggered the necessity of granting a year-round navigation to the icebreakers during the 2020s.
Mundra Port Can Now Boast Of Its Achievement Of The First Stern Berthing Of Vessel
Well, the Mundra Port has added another shining feather to its cap by successfully carrying out stern berthing operations for the MV DONGBANG GIANT NO.2 vessel for the very first time. Mundra Port has earned huge respect by becoming the first port to skilfully execute the stern mooring operation to load a cargo of 1,460 MT while carefully berthing it. The port has implemented the ‘Mediterranean Mooring” technique to combat the challenges in berthing the vessel and mooring it to the pier at a perpendicular angle instead. This enables the vessel to occupy much lesser space that it should have and makes handling it a lot easier.
Indo-Nepal Trade Treaty Will Include Waterways To Smoothly Transfer Cargo
The terms of the Indo-Nepal trade treaty will undergo a positive change to improve the connectivity between the two countries and will boost the inclusion of waterways as a safe mode of cargo transport. The Indo-Nepal Treaty of Trade and Transit 1991 needs to be amended soon because of the fact that the current rules of the treaty is only favourable to the cargo movement through rail and road. The identified routes to enhance this connection has been declared as the Kolkata-Sahebganj route by waterway, the Kolkata-Kalughat route by waterway, and also the Kolkata-Varanasi route by waterway.
