SSA Marine Has Signed An Agreement For An International Container Terminal
SSA Marine (based in Seattle) has recently sealed the deal for constructing an international container terminal, along with the consent of the Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) in Florida. SSA Marine has earned a good name in the shipping industry as a prominent division of a global multimodal transportation group, which is known as Carrix.
SSA Marine has committed to an agreement for a period of 25 years that includes two, five-year renewal options along with a full-fledged improvement plan for the Blount Island Terminal in the near future. The new terminal will be a much-needed expansion of the SSA Marine’s current leasehold at Blount Island and will be known as the SSA Jacksonville International Gateway Terminal. The terminal will be expanded by 80 acres for proper, terminal operations and additionally, will include the option to grow till 120 acres in the case of the deep-water berths owned by large-sized panamaxes . We can expect a vessel-turning basin and deep-water access (of around 47 feet) once the entire project is hopefully completed by 2023.
According to the sources, SSA Marine has decided to make a contribution of approximately $129.7m for not only the development work of the facility (regarding the harbour deepening project of Jacksonville), but will also ensure that the terminal is well-equipped with three 100-gauge container cranes. Mark Knudsen, SSA Conventional President, is of the opinion that the strategic location of the port and the support provided by a powerful, leadership team will be of great help in strengthening Jacksonville’s position as a top-notch, container terminal for enhancing the global trade.
K Line Is Under Pressure For Implementing New Fundamental Reforms In The Near Future
As we are aware of, K Line is pretty popular as the 3rd largest shipping organization in Japan. As per the predictions made in the financial sphere, K Line has been warned of the fact that the net loss for the current financial year (as ending on 31st March) will be reflected as five times worse than what was put forward in the earlier forecasts.
As a consequence, the organization is trying its best to bounce back by introducing fundamental reforms that will redefine its structure. It is evident that the organization has suffered undeniable losses with respect to the formation of the ONE (a collaborative venture) along with the overall performance of the small-sized and medium-sized bunkers and some of the containership charter contracts. It has become absolutely necessary to implement the new, fundamental reforms in order to improve its capital base and rescue it from the rather grave, financial condition.
Indian Flag-Vessels Can Now Make Calls At The Ports In Bangladesh And Sri Lanka
The Indian National Ship-Owners Association (INSA) has highly appreciated the permission granted to the Indian-flag vessels to make their calls at the Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan ports, by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The CEO of the INSA organization, Mr. Anil Devli, has expressed his gratitude towards the Union Finance Minister and has stated that this wise move has enabled the Indian flag-vessels to minimize the cost of transportation and make good use of their space. Previously, these ships (associated with both the domestic and EXIM cargo on the Indian Coast) were not allowed to make calls at the foreign ports during their journeys.
India Records A Huge Growth in Its Containerised Trade Across the Globe
Of recent, Maersk had released the Q4 2018 trade report that highlighted the fact that India’s containerised trade has been growing steadily with an import-export trade growth of 6 per cent. There has been a great demand for refrigerated cargo (like seafood, vegetables, fish, pharmaceuticals etc.) from our country along with cereals, rice, vehicles, etc. which has boosted the exports to a great extent.
Plus, India has strengthened its trade relations with China by the initiation of suitable trade policies. In spite of the various challenges introduced by regulatory reforms (like GST), the country has been able to overcome the hurdles and improve the situation of its economy. Mr. Steve With the constant development in matters of consolidation, digitisation, and infrastructure, India will surely be catapulted to the zenith of success as one of the leading trading destinations in the world.
Carnival Corporation Certifies That the Scrubber Washwater Is Not Harmful for The Environment
After conducting thorough research of washwater effluent from its exhaust, gas scrubber systems, Carnival Corporation has established the fact that open loop scrubber is working in accordance with the discharge concentration standards (according to IMO) and is safe for the environment. The scrubber also complies with the recommended standards of shoreside water quality regulators in Europe, which is inclusive of the proper EU limits for inland surface water. Scrubbers are now being preferred in the shipping industry because it can drastically reduce the harmful SOx emissions, which is possible due to the fact that its power consumption is added to the total load of the vessel’s electrical system.
