Germany-based Hapag-Lloyd Has Rejected the Merger Proposal by CMA CGM
The renowned German company, Hapag-Llyod, has always considered CMA CGM to be its greatest rival and has rejected the recent overtures made by the latter. Hapag-Llyod has made it clear that it has no desire of merging with its proclaimed competitor, which was duly reported by the Alphaliner.
During an annual general meeting held at Hamburg, Klaus-Michael Kuhne (a key Hapag-Llyod shareholder) has confidently put forward the bold statement that Hapag-Llyod would love to get its hold over CMA CGM, rather than allowing it to do the same. He personally felt that the proposal was meaningless and had no potential in spite of the several attempts at negotiation. However, if those two companies were indeed ready to collaborate, it would give rise to the world’s largest container line company with 4.24 slots.
As a matter of fact, the Hapag-Llyod organization is trying its best to cut down on expenses because the lowered freight rates and the rising bunker bills have declined very drastically over the years.
