SeaIntel Predicts a Disastrous Shortage of Feeder Vessels by the Year of 2020
The renowned market intelligence provider concerning the container shipping industry, SeaIntel, has reached to a grave conclusion that there will be a huge reduction in the estimated ratio of feeder vessels to large vessels in the global fleet scenario by 2020.
As per the calculations highlighted by SeaIntel, it can be deciphered that there is a discrepancy between the injection of feeder tonnage and the phase-in of large containership vessels in the time period of 2018-20. Taking the worst-case scenario into consideration, there will be a shortage of as many as 400-1200 feeder ships by the year end of 2020.
SeaIntel has added that it is highly improbable that the number will reach 1200 because the unbelievable shortage shall trigger an increase in the TC rates and cease scrapping altogether. Alan Murphy, the CEO of SeaIntel, believes that there will be an increment in the premium for feeder tonnage due to the contact absence of feeder vessel orders.
