Finland-Based Meriaura Group Has Designed A Transport Concept To Achieve 100 Percent Carbon Neutrality By 2024 The entire world is currently crumbling under the pressure of surviving a raging pandemic that has affected a majority of industries across the globe. Indeed, the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc when it comes to global trade and has inevitably stunted economic growth. However, the maritime industry is seriously ushering in a new, eco-friendly era where shipping vessels are constantly striving to reduce the carbon footprint. Following the trend, Finnish shipowning company Meriaura has designed an innovative transport concept that aims to achieve 100 percent carbon neutrality by the year 2024. The concept incorporates the ideation of hybrid propulsion that revolves around battery technology along with sustainable bio-oil. The Finland-based company is focused on automating the total cargo handling system based on renewable energy sources. Meriaura Group is working tirelessly to revolutionize the transport chain and is now developing a brand-new, commercial operating model to implement the upcoming changes. The transport concept is meant to be applicable to lake, canal and sea feeder traffic in the near future. The newly launched route will work at diminishing the container movement distance between BMCT and the four other terminals and allow the hassle-free movement of ITRHO (Inter Terminal Rail Handling Operation) along with TP (Transhipment) for the smooth flow of both ITRHO and TP containers along the route. The Inter Terminal route will make sure to establish a timely connection of export containers and on the other hand, boost the rail share, volume of transhipment containers and train-handling time, as well. The Centre Rejects The Construction Of Container Transhipment Hub Project Near Kanyakumari Via PPP Route The Centre has unfortunately discarded the plans to construct a container transhipment hub project near Kanyakumari through the PPP (public, private, partnership) route owing to the strong opposition put forward by the local fishing community.
