Singapore-Based Thome Group Decides To Embark On A Joint Venture With Germany-Based Carsten Rehder Hailing from Singapore, the ship managing organization Thome Group has finally given a green signal to Carsten Rehder from Germany as they jointly decide to start a brand-new venture in 2020. According to the recent agreement between the two well-established shipping organizations, a wholly new company (known as the Thome Shipmanagement Germany) will be launched to supervise the shipmanagement situation of the existing fleet (consisting of container vessels, multipurpose vessels and dry bulk ships) under the banner of Carsten Rehder. The newly introduced Thome Shipmanagement Germany will feature the two shipping organizations as shareholders. Over the past few years, the German shipping scenario as well as the international shipping markets have been going through a massive transformation and hence, it is indeed a wise decision for Germany-based Carsten Rehder to actively collaborate with the Thome Group all the way from Singapore. In fact, the modern-day concept of third party ship management services is now considered as an essential component of international trade and worldwide business. Thoothukudi VO Chidambaranar Port Might Be Soon Declared As An International Container Transshipment Hub The Thoothukudi VO Chidambaranar Port is strategically located right between the east and the west international routes related to trade and it is a known fact that transforming the VOC Port into an international container transhipment hub would surely serve as an impetus to directly boost the shipment of containers to India. This new, modern-day transshipment hub will be a welcome change from the existing route of container shipment being carried at the famous Colombo Port in Sri Lanka. The prospect of a full-fledged hub at the VOC Port will also escalate the long-term projects like the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal. Plus, the biggest advantage of the Thoothukudi Chidambaranar Port is that it is fully protected from devastating natural disasters like tsunamis and cyclones. The Major Port Across India Are Likely To Surpass The Pre-Corona Levels In The Coming Months The ongoing pandemic has wreaked havoc across the globe as the lockdown has caused a serious loss of business and trading transactions for the maritime industry. There has been a sharp decline in container traffic from the months of March to May in 2020 while there has been a sudden, noticeable surge in June to August. The nationwide lockdown as brought forth by the Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the infrastructure augmentation projects at the major ports and has inevitably led to cost overruns and wastage of time. Not just the ports but also the dependent stakeholders are currently undergoing an uncertain period of immense difficulties in maintaining the regular operations at the various terminals.
